Having a handicap is simply to make the game more enjoyable by enabling golfers of differing abilities to compete equitably.  It also enables you to measure your golf ability and performance improvements and to assess them relative to others.

Wintergreen now has many activities where a handicap is necessary to participate.  Those include:

Club Championship

Ladies’ Match Play

Men’s Match Play

Business Ladies Interclub (BLIC)

Men’s Senior Interclub

Wonder Cup

Challenge Cup

Handicaps are also necessary if you desire to enter many of the tournaments and events around Alberta; we have had members recently compete in the Calgary Ladies Closed Amateur and the Marg Ward Mid-Handicap Championship.

The system is only as fair as the golfers who use it, and only requires that you be honest, try to make the best possible score on every hole, and submit every acceptable score to the RCGA handicap system for peer review.

The Handicap and Rules Committee will be presenting through this website and through the bulletin boards in the locker rooms, information to assist you in maintaining an accurate handicap, and to play golf with sufficient knowledge of the rules of the game.  So check often for updates.
